"I was just reviewing your site trying to find out what violations
a particular refinery had. The information that was provided was
generic and was not specific to the site I was reviewing. However,
the site does include how many people live in the surrounding area
and has a link to maps. It also has the lattitude of this location.
I do not not believe that this information is in the best interest
of the public. In light of what is happening in the world today,
let's not make it easier for the bad guys to get information about
our important facilities." "I find the ECHO website an extremely valuable tool and I
hope that the EPA continues to maintain this information on the
web." "Your site is very helpful. It is a good way to check compliance
of current and potential raw material suppliers. The ability to
search by company name would be helpful." "...EPA's ECHO web site provides a good first effort for making
enforcement and compliance information more available. These type
of web-based public disclosures are very important, and long overdue.
Thank you very much." "Upon reviewing the ECHO site, [xxx] has the following comments.
...1)... There should be some differentiation on the site between
Notices of Deficiency, Letters of Warning, and Notices of Violation.
Referring to everything as a "violation" gives a false
picture of facility compliance status. 2) ... there is no information
regarding POTW pretreatment permits that are also issued under the
CWA.... Without it, it appears that the regulated facilities are
not managing their industrial wastewater discharges to a POTW under
an enforceable regulatory permit." Phoned comments "...There's more data provided in ECHO than is necessary.." |
